Challenge: Reusability Extreme
Due to the cost-effectiveness of private aerospace, the Forum has had its budget slashed and such arguments as “If SpaceZ can do it for 50 times cheaper, why even bother?” have been thrown around. Therefore, we have decided that to remain competitive, we must develop our own fully reusable launch system, and do something spectacular with it.

Normal Mode:
Land a fully reusable rocket on The Moon and return with less than 30 parts.

Hard Mode:
Land a fully reusable rocket on Mars and return with less than 20 parts. (must include capsule)

Super Mode:
Impress me.

The Rules:
- No Dirty Cheating Alpacas (no using sandbox cheats or bugs).
- The UI must be visible in all mandatory screenshots.
- The craft must be a rocket (i.e. only rocket engines can be used to produce thrust).
- Every part attached to the rocket when the flight begins must be recovered.
- No part on the rocket may be destroyed at any point. this does not include fairing pieces.
- No parts or mods that affect your in-game ability.
- Your rocket must be launched from the launch pad on Earth.
- No Bp editing (in-game part clipping is fine)

Required Screenshots:
- Your rocket in the Build menu with the part count visible
- Your rocket on the launch pad.
- Any point on your rocket’s ascent.
- Map view of your orbit of Earth.
- Map view of your transfer orbit around Earth.
- Map view of your flyby of the destination.
- Map view of you orbiting your destination.
- Your craft landed at your destination.
- Any point of your craft’s ascent from your destination.
- Map view of your craft’s orbit around your destination.
- Map view of your transfer orbit back to Earth at the destination.-
Your craft landed on Earth.

You can make a video, just be sure to upload it and post it here on time.

This challenge was taken from my discord server. I'd love to post more so tell me what you think!

Oh, the irony.

Just a thought, this isn't extreme re-useability. This is recoverability.

Re-useable means that they are re-used.

Extreme re-useability would be doing multiple missions using the same launch vehicle being re-furbished multiple times in-game (wthout re-spawn).

Not sure why there's a part count cap though. Smaller rockets are easier to recover.

Edit: is there a payload weight? Or do you literally just have to touch down on said destinations and return?

Horus we've done this. It's just a matter of reducing part count :)

I think it'll be much, much easier than the challenge I gave you. Obviously the parts cap could be problematic (and rules out shuttles for the most part), but you're not shifting a payload or going particularly far. And you only really need to land the dropped stages/boosters, not return them to the launch pad.
The 3 of you could do this in hard mode in your sleep.

I did the challenge in 1.406 with 5 parts, but I currently don't have my phone. I do however need to make a youtube video, so imma try to get it done by tomorrow. no promises though.
1.4 =/= 1.5

Did you make sure to enable drag by exiting and resuming game before launch?

for the 20 part one I did yes, for the 5 part one no, but I have tested this out in 1.5 and apart from the constant crashes, it does work.
Then the 5 part one doesn't count...

moon and back 1.406, aero forces worked, then bugged out, then at around 10km they worked again and I got hit by a metaphorical brick wall
Yeah, it's called drag dude. Most of your video claims relied on the way the game at 1.4.06 disabled drag at default, allowing you to crack LEO with around 2500-2650m/s. The game as it should be requires upwards of 3500-4500m/s, especially flat topped, single stage, grasshopper/broadsword powered micro rockets.

The moon and back as a non-ion, single stage challenge isn't do-able. The Dv budget required is too high.

yeah, I know. hence why I tried redoing them in 1.5. the 3 and 5 part ones didn't work, but I did a 15-16 (I think?) part one to the moon and back
Why are you posting these here if they don't fulfill the requirements you posted?

So you didn't do the challenge with 3 or 5 parts to the moon in 1.4.06 with no exploits. You became an Alpaca and used an exploit to make a video claiming a capability that just isn't do-able.

An alpaca saying he doesn't wants alpacas...

Also, why the craft must be a rocket? Why can't be a shuttle?
