Yes, I know. This mission has kind of been my white whale for a while. But I finally have done it. Last time, I didn't reach it because my shuttle didn't look very good. But I'm back, with a more capable and aesthetically pleasing model. To compare, here is the shuttles 4th edition.

First of all, the heat shields look so ugly, not clipping to the shuttles nosecone, and the tail is just a aerodynamic piece. Plus, there is no RCS, making docking near impossible.

Now, here is the 5th edition. No explanation needed.

I think the heatshield in the front could be changed, or gotten rid of altogether, it kind of detracts from the build; also isn’t the orbiter meant to be reusable?

I think you're mistaking this for the reusability challenge.
No, it says "The shuttle’s orbiter must also land back on Earth, undamaged (any landing method, that is not a glitch or an exploit will be accepted)". the orbiter has to land

IT. LANDED. I literally have photo evidence! I don't understand what you think I've done wrong.
The top of the shuttle landed, though I don't see any evidence of the bottom orange bit (the orbiter) landing.

The rules doesn't mention that the booster has to be landed, but in my observation, many shuttle entries don't usually land the booster.

For your shuttle, I agree with Hobbs, that the vertical heatshield should be removed, and the bottom heatshield should cover the entire nose cone. By doing that, the shuttle should be reentering in a low angle of attack.

.
I don't know, I'm pretty sure the booster counts as a Stack/Orbiter/, Meaning that it should be landed but idk
