What are shock diamonds?
Those are those bright things you can see in the trail of an engine:

This is the BE-4 engine for example.
This is because the gases are overexpanded. Basically that happens when an engine which nozzle is optimized for low pressure zones is lighted at ground level.
Another famous example is the RS25 when the shuttle lifts off, those diamonds are visible too.

Or a simple explanation is the gas’s is at a lower pressure than the surrounding air, so it’s compresses in then oscillates until the end of the tail
