I needed the No Heat Damage cheat to simulate the effectiveness of the Heat Shield.
you could have just… idk, used your thrusters to counteract the speed? It’s speed that causes the entry into the atmosphere being either a disaster or a success. If you go too fast, you’re done. If you counteract it and use your engines to slow your rocket down enough to prevent dangerous re-entry, then you’ll be fine. Don’t need to use cheats.

Yes but that’s not realistic, considering the engines aren’t protected by the heat shield

Fire the engines on approach before hitting the atmosphere, also
Low density/Large surface area, like a big empty rocket moving sideways mitigates heat too

This thing basically free fell to Earth (very little lateral/orbital velocity, the one full fuel tank is just a tiny reserve), I let the landing gear down to take the impact;
Not calling that an acceptable landing, but a good crash test
