Please don't. My brain hurts after watching roadwheels steer.

Fuck off film.
Horus Lupercal, I summon thee.
I have new information.
The BT-42 featured in the above anime video was the crappy Finnish conversion of captured Soviet BT-7 tanks.
The thing about the BT tanks.... I found this on the main article about the entire BT series:

The BT tanks were "convertible tanks". This was a feature designed by J. Walter Christie to reduce wear of the unreliable tank tracks of the 1930s. In about thirty minutes, the crew could remove the tracks and engage a chain drive to the rearmost road wheel on each side, allowing the tank to travel at very high speeds on roads. In wheeled mode, the tank was steered by pivoting the front road wheels.
The concept of driving around on road wheels and steering with road wheels, and I can barely believe this, is fucking real.
Sure, it's taken to the usual Hollywood/anime extremes. And they didn't have to do the required 30 minute conversion. But the basic principle is real.o_O

Aaah don't man. Last time I was drinking port, someone brought up GuP and I was here for 3 hours tearing it a new one. Here I am, watching a film on russian submarines with a glass of Taylors 2013 vintage ruby port in hand, minding my own business and you drop this on me.

Film - paused
Wikipedia - open

Fuck sake. I only wanted one glass tonight, looks like I'm gonna have to drink the rest of the bottle to erase that from my mind again.

Still, not a single chain seen anywhere, so GuP can still go and get fucked with a 24 inch mortar shell.

I was not aware that they are mortar shells that big... Now put it in on a battleship.
It'd be one helluva weapon, making a long barrel 24in gun. It'd be orders of holy shit larger than the main armament on even Yamato.
Exists though. The stupid tracked super artillery in the clip is Kärl, a 600mm (or 24inch) self propelled mortar firing 2 ton shells. Range is only a few kilometres though, cos it's a high angle mortar, so a long barrel version with greater range would need to be made if it'd be of any use on a battleship.

Right. I had double checked the size of Yamato's guns as reference. The Kärl is also bloody huge, and firing about two tons worth of ordnance would level anything it hits... Humans are great at inventing complicated ways at killing each other.

If I remember my numbers, the 16in super AP from the 16/50 guns on the Missouri are 2,700lbs each (around 1300kg). Karl fires a shell double that weight, but for only a quarter the range.

As for impact, well you're not gonna want to be underneath this

And be thankful they could only get off one shot every 10 minutes, rather than an entire broadside every 30 seconds like a battleship could do.

Bloody hell... If it was like every 30 seconds they could get a shot off they could completely level a city in a couple hours.

Ammo supply and barrel life would be big problems. 30 shots a day would be considered good going for Kärl, specialist ammunition brought in by train, whereas Missouri could fire 18 rounds a minute, every minute and do it until the magazines emptied out after a thousand rounds or so and everything downrange is a blasted moonscape

Actually there was an actual plan to use the space shuttle’s ETs, to leave them in orbit, and to use them to build a space station. Pretty much like Skylab.

But would the ETs in orbit have had Falcon Heavy side boosters attached? :p
