This is an open thread dedicated to mechanisms in sfs, from pistons and hinges to more abstract things like gears and armament batteries (credit to Astatium_209 for the idea). Noclip or Clipped, Vanilla or bp edited, feel free to post your creations here!

No need to provide blueprints, just a showcase of how the mechanism works. Screenshots are fine, although a videos are much better, as they truly show the mechanism in action. It would be good to provide as many parameters / tendencies / characteristics as possible. Also, this thread is intended for vanilla, not modded mechanisms.

I look forward to seeing your creations!

I'll start off with my piston
- Vanilla noclip
- Misclick proof (you won't break it by fat-finger-fumbling it)
- Infinitely reusable (All the parts you need to use the mechanism are clickable, so you can add them to stages to continue reusing)
- mostly covered with fairings
- requires 0g assembly
- haven't tested weight on earth
- since the video was posted it has been updated, so I'll probably edit this

edit: it seems shorts don't embed, I'll try to rework this

Aw nice!

I'll add the piston I worked on a while ago (and posted here).
It isn't as simple as plug and play, you need to modify joints in a quick save, making it a hassle.

As posted in the thread I linked, the piston can lift more than 100t under 1g of acceleration, in both directions. Unfortunately, it does have some wonk if a load is applied at an angle.

Recently I've been playing around with noclip rovers and made this:
Screenshot_20230223-163147.png

Though light, it is a cargo Rover, so it needs a way to load payloads onto it. Well, let's make a cargo transporting crane machine thingy!
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you THE DONKE:

Capable of lifting light payloads (around 20t for now), has a crane, an extendable lifting structure, and adjustable counterweight. This version still isn't perfect, but I'm working on it. Here's a demonstration:

Adjusting counterweight:

Approaching the payload

Attaching the lift to the payload:

Lifting the payload, so that we can transport it:

Lifting it more, so we can place it on the Rover:

Placing the payload on the Rover (this was slightly problematic):
Screenshot_20230311-120313.png

I didn't drop it btw, just forgot to take a pic when the crane was lowered with the payload touching the bed of the truck

And now we can drive the Rover!

Pshhh.. don't tell anyone I had to nudge the Rover with the crane to get it off the ramp,

I Still have to fix a few issues, mainly increasing payload capability by adding wheels and making the counterweight arm longer, and improve payload detachment by adding a solar panel in the lifing shady facing the payload.
