Well, that's THE one I definitely had to do!

So I'll start from LEO, as required:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-09-50-31.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-43-28.jpg
I'm even a tiny bit lower than the starting altitude.

When we go to Mercury, the first step is to go to Venus as usual:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-09-51-42.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-09-52-18.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-09-52-56.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-09-54-42.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-09-54-45.jpg
The injection burn is made on 2 passes to maximize the Oberth effect.

Then on Venus encounter, I perform a high fly-by to chain a second gravity assist:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-12-54.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-13-03.jpg

The second gravity assist sends me directly towards Mercury, close to its perigee:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-15-03.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-16-52.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-17-00.jpg

Now the tedious part, I have to get an encounter with Mercury:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-18-07.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-19-10.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-19-13.jpg

Now that it's done, it's all a matter of chaining gravity assists with Mercury. Here's the first one:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-23-53.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-37-51.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-39-55.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-10-41-17.jpg

I left Mercury on a resoning orbit, so the second encounter came quickly fast.

To be continued...

Then comes the second gravity assist:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-03-18.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-06-22.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-08-13.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-08-18.jpg

Again, I get another encounter with Mercury for another gravity assist:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-09-43.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-10-58.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-20-54.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-22-42.jpg
This time I turn on the engine to lower the apohelion. Then I raise the periapsis of my ship, to minimize the encounter speed:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-12-01-54.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-12-01-56.jpg

After 12 turns, I get the final encounter, then insertion in Low Mercury Orbit:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-26-16.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-26-24.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-28-18.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-28-47.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-28-54.jpg

Then finally, the landing phase:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-32-18.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-35-08.jpg

The mission should end there, but I still have some fuel. So let's return in orbit!
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-35-39.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-11-37-47.jpg
Now with what I have left, I won't go anywhere. Well, mission accomplished I suppose :)

He is making the rest of us look bad… I haven’t posted my results for this mission yet for… obvious reasons.

Oh, I'm only in Mercury orbit. But after you said I had to check...
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-16-18-11.jpg
And yes I can reach solar orbit! Barely though.
Nice badge, thanks Moon :)

I take it as a compliment, thanks. But that's nothing impossible, I had to learn too. If I could make it, anyone can do it. :)

How did you get 2 fly-by of Venus?
It depends on your exit trajectory after the first fly-by.

At the beginning, my transfer trajectory is the following:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-18-53-28.jpg
The transfer to Venus is not optimal at all, but that's intentional. If I choose a less energetic transfer, I won't naturally reach Mercury after the second slingshot and I'll have to use my engine and some fuel to compensate.

Regarding the fly-by, I aim for a periapsis around 1700-1800 km:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-18-54-09.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-18-54-24.jpg
I could get a greater deviation by flying closer to Venus, but that's not the intention here. Instead I'll make sure to get a second encounter with Venus. I do this by adjusting slightly my periapsis, by burning sideways:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-18-55-13.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-18-55-24.jpg

At that stage I can even adjust the next fly-by. For the next one, I'll want a maximum deviation, so this time I pass as close as possible to the planet:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-19-04-04.jpg

And this time, this is magic:
Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-19-06-17.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-19-06-55.jpg Spaceflight Simulator_2022-07-29-19-07-09.jpg

Trajectories that rely on gravity assist often do this: the purpose is not always to get the greatest effect you can, but also to chain gravity assists to cumulate the effects.

Can you pls post a video doing the mission pls? (Necropost alert)
