It doesn't matter. You'll have to use Cucumber's mod if you use the old mod loader, but if you use the beta then you just have to place the textures in the appropriate folder.

You may have figured it out already, but SFS 1.5.7.3 changed how packs have to be formatted, so without an update these are only for 1.5.7.2 and earlier.
I'm editing all threads to reflect this.
