I'm happy to be able to congratulate Dahzito on recieving the Recruit role :D

Have fun with it, I'm sure we'll see many great things from you in the OI
Was I already said, I'm surprised and thank you! Even that its "just" (not much the right word actually) the Recruit role I'm very happy to fell that I'm actually helping and trying to encourage the community.
Also, nice 2 promotions in 1 week, new personal record lol.

5 minutes was allowed to all registered users when this overhaul was introduced, upon further observation this has now been raised to 10 minutes to provide new users with the all the ability to avoid un-condensed posts.

So if I want to get an orbital institute role the best thing to do is just be active and post things, help community etc. ? No applications?

It's much more complicated than that buddy ;)

Just be an active, kind and helpful member in the community and you might get selected.

You need to post things of you doing sfs things, but you gotta put effort into it. You will be needed to guide the forum, discord or both. You will also have great responsibility once you reach the higher ranks.

We're partnering with the official discord server to integrate their newly overhauled, more transparent and inclusive Orbital Institute system here to the Forums, completely replacing the team badges.
You can find a quick summary of the different ranks in the spoiler.
Recruit - Given to active and aspiring members of the community
Cadet - Given to recruits who've continued to hone their skills
Pilot - Given to cadets who've been a strong positive and knowledgable force in the community
Ace - The backbone of the OI, these guys really know their stuff Louisnidas is the first Ace, and there will be more.
Veteran - The best of the best. Responsible for steering the OI. Khaz and Marmilo are our veterans at the present.
This system is cross-platform, if you get a badge on the forums, you also get it on discord, and visa versa.
Marmilo and Khaz will be working overtime in the next few days to expand the list of users here with Orbital Institute badges.

The challenge badges system will stay, and is also experiencing its own overhaul to streamline the requirements on each challenge, open them up to more people and introduce more challenging missions at the top end for you to attempt!
These will be judged by users who have achieved a certain level in the Orbital Institute rankings.
Tier 1 of the challenges is now what used to be the team frontier level, moon return is no more. Tier 2 is what used to be team hawk level, and we have two more tiers to populate with the best challenges we can all think of in the future.

Expect some things to move around on the forum as we work out the best places for everything to go under the overhauled systems.

Happy playing!
How does the new system apply to non-mod/admin judges for challenges.

Judges are approved on a case by case basis, old team judges aren't automatically "in". Judges are unmarked for at least the present.
Anyone can and is encouraged to contribute constructive feedback though.
