... LET'S PUT IT TO THE TEST.

VETERANS vs. EXPERTS.

Each Veteran will face his theoretical equal from the Experts. Here they are:
Altaïr vs. Horus Lupercal - Largest payload to low Solar Orbit
Blazer vs. BANDWITH - Most realistic planet Earth
Earl vs. Mooncrasher -Tank war! Most deadly in-game tank. No holds barred!
Gecko Gekkota vs. Etherian Space Program - Most advanced and functional station built around Mars
GuHP20 vs. Roger Jolly - Most capable orbital one man fighter
JL MC.COOL vs. 4KidsOneCamera - Fastest Mercury Landing Return Mission
Jupiter vs. Jez 10 - Best looking and functioning STS replica
Lt. Snakestrike vs. SupremeDorian - Best Ganymede Orbital Inn

I will judge.

The winner of each battle will receive an EPIC rover from yours truly. An all round all-terrain beater. You guys know by now what to expect. Those winners will face off on new challenges appropriate for them. The final champion receives the blueprint to this:

Also, the winning group will all get something... nearly this nice ;)

This is the battle of the GIANTS.

Question, how is the speed of a mercury return timed?

Now this thread I've gotta keep an eye on.

Could we do a similar event for us lower ranks?

If the phrase 'measure your success by the strength of your enemies' is true, then I've been very successful.

The Warmaster vs the actual member of a real space agency.

Some say that he created the navigation system and is the only man capable of throwing a fish into Low Earth Orbit. All we know is, this is gonna be really, really interesting.

That being said, what's the rules/criteria?

Apo/Peri below 1000km. One build grid limit. Yes, it's gonna be tight. No Ions, none of the other obvious taboos. Heaviest payload wins.

Tight? With no ions? you're talking in the region of 44,000m/s Dv from launchpad to LSO.

It's not do able chemically. Even with just a capsule as a payload and the minimum attachments, getting a quarter of that budget using chemical engines means putting 4 thousand tons of fuel into orbit.

Which should get us a apo/peri about midway between Mercury and the Sun

If you and your adversary agree on that, then Ions are permitted, but only on the final stage.

The idea is to measure your mastery of of gravity assists and flight efficiency against that of Stigman.

You could still use ions, but treat them as if them still needed electricity. So, solar panels or RTGs would be required.

"The most reallistic Earth"...

What are the judging rules/criteria here?
Landscape (variety and unique features), day/night cycle, background details, zoomed out appearance, really anything that makes it closer to Real Earth.
