Just tried out the mod, Not sure if this is an intentional feature or an accidental one, but you don't need a capsule to use it.

It was accidental. Looks like I would need an additional check to prevent this. I could leave this in as a feature? Comments anyone?

This honestly sounds like a bug to me. Not a big one however, since even if you manage to land your uncontrolled rocket that way then you won't go anywhere else after that.
If somebody wants to save the mass of a probe then he can bp edit a probe to make it really small, so that its mass is negligible, and it still provides control.
The fix is easy, you can just do something like that:

It does seem useful for recovery, but since uncontrolled rockets can't be turned (even with smart SAS) you're usually bound to crash when you end up slightly turned.

Well yes, but thrust assist works even if you never had a capsule to begin with

Edit: after testing it seems that smart SAS technically is still on after you lose the capsule, but you lose the ability to turn regardless. Even if your engine has gimbal on.

Will no longer remain on after returning to the build screen, revert to launch or load quick save.

v0.6 is released - see first post for updated details. N.B. I have not set up automatic updates (in case a release breaks something that someone is depending on) so you will need to download the new version.

The version adds support for landing at a specified position an covers the de-orbit stage as well. Testing it on the Moon in Normal with plenty of thrust (local TWR of 6) from a 10 km orbit, it can land within a few meters of the target (or even on top of it!). I did a quick test using it to land on Mercury in Realistic with a local TWR of 2 from a 100km orbit, and managed to land within a couple of kilometers of the target - better than I could manage manually. However, I needed to angle up from prograde by 10 or 20 degrees for part of the descent.

I've just tried to download 0.6, and it's taken me to a 404 page. Anyone else have the same issue or is this just my computer being odd?

I also have that issue, try going to all releases and download 0.6 there

I had the same issue so went onto the all releases page and updated their post myself. Moderating privileges can be used for good outside of what is classed as moderation!

You must've accidentally clicked backspace or not highlighted the final l as the .dll part of the link only had .dl. That was the only mistake I could see at least. When trying mine with that letter removed I trigger that same 404 webpage which likely confirms this suspicion.

0.6.1 Is out

  • Added fine height control (+- 0.5m). Could be useful when attempting to 'catch' a Starship.
  • Added indication of marker direction ('<' or '>' on the marker button).
  • Fixed engine cutoff in marker mode when hovering. It might sometimes turn the thrust too high if hovering while marker assist is on.

Nice mod, btw I have a question, is it ok if you are able to to program it in such that if for example, I am 150m above ground, it auto deploys landing legs?
Not really in the scope of this mod. All it is intended to control is the thrust. You would probably need a separate mod that triggers certain stages under certain conditions. Specifying all possible conditions would be tricky.

Also, could you make it so that perhaps you could pre-program inputs? Like if i'm at a certain height it could burn for x amount of time? Or slowly ascend until I am at a certain height?
Pre-programming would need some rather complex inputs - best left to a different mod. However, at some point I plan to make the controls and calculated values easily accessable for other mods - so a 'controller' mod could set the parameters and turn the various assists on/and off. This interface is partially done already from the way it was designed, just not documented yet.

I don't plan on looking at a controller mod any time soon. The next thing I might look at is thrust assistance when approaching a space craft. However, since this mod does not control direction and SAS provides no useful direction assistance for space craft approach this would have limited usefulness.

I have a vague plan to look at multi-launchpad support for custom systems but haven't yet investigated how it could be done in sufficient detail to see if it is possible.

Hi, maybe I'm the only one with crooked hands. I can't install this mod. I put it in the mods folder, when I launch the game it creates a folder for it, but it doesn't show up in the game, what am I doing wrong?

After starting SFS click of the 'Mod Loader' button then click on the ' ' button every few seconds until the 'mods loading not finished yet' message disappears and the list of mods appear (that might fix the problem). If it does not, press the F1 button when the list of mods had appeared and take a screenshot - it may give clues about what the problem is.
