Oh. By the way, I ended up with this.

Second stage booster separation complete.

Will update if it works well.
And many more...
This could've been put in one message.

So by your rules(?), the payload would be 1/6th of the mass of the whole rocket.
Pretty much. It can be brought down to just over 1/4 but 1/6 gives you plenty of room to attain a decent orbit and perform a dock.
Those rules work only for Low to mid Earth Orbit. If you want to go further, you have to make that transport / delivery stage part of the payload mass so that you can get that into space and then continue on from there.

By the way, I think I need some manual calculations for TWR, since 1.35 doesn't provide it.
As for TWR, it's a pretty easy one. It explains here all about how it works.

Brief summary it's your total force divided by your total mass. This gives you your acceleration in metres per second.
Then you divide that by the local gravity of where you happen to be (sat on the launch pad, 9.8).
Do this for each stage from the top down.

If you want to be real big brain, you can work it out for booster separations as well, to see if your boosters are coming off too late or too early.

The forum isn't for live reports on missons. He could edit the post to add pictures, instead he posted like 20 messages with one screenshot each. This is a forum, not a chat.

My two cents:
Indeed, all screenshots should go in one post, and we have thumbnail option for a reason!

Less boosters are sometimes good. They aren't strictly necessary for efficiency, they just need to be used when you have a low power core stage. There's other options. I once modified the two stage rocket in my profile photo into a lean beast that was 25% payload. With two serial stages.

Congrats on the docking, I shall follow your career with great interest. :)

Yep, but any fewer and I can't get it to orbit. Anyway, thanks!

Next time I would compile it in one message. Sorry.
How about making a docking tutorial? Seems like there is none in this forum.
You can compile these into one message as well...

What he means is making the central core wider.

There is atleast 3. Hell, I've made two myself.

Oh. But it seems like the core is at its widest since my max as at 6 blocks. The home page shows that the tutorial categories don't have any threads. But I'll acknowledge your tutorials Horus.

I have a rocket core 64 metres wide. Place them side by side and then put engines under them. As long as they're the same length, they'll burn out at the same time and be considered a 'core' unto themselves.

If you try the USFS, you'll see a thread named 'Basics 101'. Inside that is a shitload of sub-threads and posts, one of which is docking.

Also, that post I've linked on this thread twice, if you scroll down through that it goes into encounters and docking as well. There's even several videos.
