Why can't I use *.bp files on PC?

I just really want to use blueprint files on PC. I have 1.35 installed, so this is outdated and unfixable. However, I can get an explanation after the release of 1.4. I just want to know why.

You've got to change the extension from .bp to .txt. Then you can edit the file code.

On Windows the Geany editor can read all txt files whatever their character encoding. it is multiple platform and multiple OS. Free of course.
