Sorry. This will be a bit lengthy. I feel that given the nature of this situation, I should give the full context.
I was banned on Friday (March 29) , and would like to appeal it. Im a rule abiding member, and have been here for years. For background, I have been muted twice before this. The first time, I posted something in the wrong channel. It was a meme. (An SFS related meme, in off topic). Someone called me out on it. I said I didn’t know it was that strict, and pointed it out wasn’t so clear, and got jumped with a lot of “do you know how to read” type comments. So I kept going, and I got muted for rule number 3. What mods say Is final. Fair enough. I pushed the issue. Lesson learned.
The second time I got muted was maybe a few months ago. I posted a picture of my build in editing, looking for advice. I wrote “Can someone please help me? I can’t seem to make this cupola look not re**rded (I’ll censor to avoid another offense). I’m hit with a 24 hour mute. I had no idea this would be an offense, profanity isn’t moderated on the server, but apparently this word is seen to be more offensive. I do feel like, given the context I was using it (not towards anyone) , a warning would have been nice. But what’s done is done.
So I’ve been muted twice. I mention this to illustrate thst I’m not a troublemaker or troll I wasn’t being vulgar, or offensive, or insulting anyone. I get along with people and I contribute to the server. I posted something in a wrong channel, and I used a word I didn’t know wasn’t allowed.
So This brings me to Friday. I was talking in vanilla, and when I posted a build, I’m hit with a 12 hour mute. At the time I assumed I was muted because there was an edited part on the build, and I was in vanilla. That’s all I could think of. I hadn’t done done anything(that I knew of) . So I was pretty surprised, and a bit annoyed by that.
So after my 12 hours is up, I message Dr. Death. He tells me who muted me, and right then, the mod who muted me messaged. They said I had been muted for “posting NSFW content”, which confused me. I hadn’t posted any such thing. Then they give me the screenshot. It was a Wikipedia article I posted about specific impulse. And at the top, in one of my browser tabs is the word( I’ll censor) “g**gbang vid…”. That’s all. No pictures. Nothing else. Just the word. Keep in mind, my 12 hours has ended at this point. I’m messaging to find out why I was muted, and to voice that it’s kind of aggravating that these mutes seem to come out of nowhere, and without warning, even when the offense is pretty benign. I thought muting is supposed to be for people being obnoxious or deliberately offensive.
So maybe I’m crazy here, but that word, on a browser tab doesn’t seem like something worth muting someone for, so long as there’s no imagery, which there wasn’t. So that’s not “NSFW content” is it? So I say that, and he absolutely refuses to budge on the issue, saying the ban is just, and I deserved it. During the convo at some point I make the mistake of mentioning thst what was on the tab wasn’t anything sexual in nature anyways. I just happened to be researching a shooting by a criminal with that name. So he asks me to provide a link, which Im fine with, so I do. Not that what’s in my tabs is relevant, or anybody’s business, the only reason I mentioned this was to illustrate, that without context, just that word which could mean other things, so it shouldn’t be a mute.
This is when it gets weird. He starts demanding that I send him the exact video from the same website that I had up at the time, to prove to him that there wasn’t actually porn on my browser tab. He wants a link that will make the tab look the same. And I actually started looking for it, before I stop and realize how out of line the request was. Why would he think he’s entitled to know what’s in my tabs? It doesn’t matter what was in the tab. That’s irrelevant. I was muted for what was visible. But by this point he’s not even talking about the mute anymore, and is just demanding that I give him a link, or “admit to him that I had porn in my tabs”. And he’s saying things like “just admit what’s in the tab. It won’t change anything, but it will free your mind” The conversation has gotten so ridiculous and abstract by this point that it’s devolved to him just trolling, so I give up trying to discuss it.
So I go back to the server, and I ping the same mod to ask get my roles back, and he immediately mutes me again. Keep in mind, my mute was over at this point. And I hadn’t even been back on the server yet. And he now mutes me again, for nothing. So I DM him asking what the hell, and at first he denies it.(I have all of this screenshotted). Then he says he did it to “review my account”. Which is ridiculous. This has clearly just become a power play by this point- So I call him out on it. And he literally tells me “I’ve been honest with you, and since you won’t be honest with me about what’s on your tabs, so there’s nothing else to discuss” and he perma bans me from the server! …because I won’t divulge what’s in my browser history to him!? I’m still in disbelief over this.
So clearly would like to appeal this ban- and be reinstated, and I’m also asking to have this incident reviewed by whoever’s in charge. I have the entire conversation screenshotted, and will send it to where ever is needed.
