exploring eternia

I've never taken a lot of time to explore eternia, so I decided to look around it a bit. I am currently preparing a station to explore with. Pictures to come soon.

So, I start with a transfer stage. I will also use it as the station's core.

I then send up 2 fuel tanks. I use the stage from this launch to top off the core.

Then, I add a truss to add stuff to later.

I needed to use it at least once. This is the mastodon, one of my favourite builds. Today it will carry a hab module.

A successful docking, and the payload is safe at the station.

I'm going to add a couple landers, a couple probes, and finally a crew capsule. Then I will be ready to actually begin the mission.

Earl, those Ions will give you 27000m/s Δv or thereabout. 11000 got me a successful one way mission to Erganium. It sounds like 27k is a lot. But use assists wherever you can, because a) it saves Δv, obviously and b) thrust.

Eternia is huge, don't die. You may be pretty upset if you do...

Luckily, I can lose mass when I need to due to the modular nature of the craft. But yeah, I'm planning on taking as many assist as I can.
I will also be adding additional auxiliary tanks on the life support modules. Ones that constantly shed off as much dry mass as possible.
So I should have enough juice to look around a bit

yup, its possibly one of the most important stages of station construction.

I do it, but somehow they don't look that good. I feel like I was a bit more creative in those old 1.4 days, noclip etc... I'm trying to play with reduced clipping lately.
