So started a new world kept it simple I'm doing 1:20 scale (I'll probably do a new world in 1:1 when a oxygen system is added, variable isp, and a rebalance mods are made, so that may be awhile). So because this is gonna be a bit of an RP world I need to give some backstory. So let us begin.
Millennium Industries was founded in 1940 as a wartime R&D house by Ziah "Zee" Ray. Millennium Industries developed early guided anti-ship missiles much like the Fritz X developed by the Germans. Though by the time such missiles were ready for trails, the two nuclear bombs had been dropped and the war ended. Not too long after the contract was terminated and this left Millennium Industries defunct and filed for bankruptcy. Zee not being deterred by such a failure and ever the philanthropist, hatched a plan. He still had his connections in the armed forces and knew of operation paperclip. This led Zee to found the very originally named Millennium Enterprises. He used his contacts in the military to pick up ex-Nazi rocket scientists and put them to work developing their first rockets. They would primarily test the V-2 rockets, but by 1955 they started their own in house designs.
Now the backstory up to 1956 which will be the starting date of the RP. Also yes this is alt history. So the first few rockets developed are very small, single stage, sub orbital rockets, designed for testing the upper atmosphere and the effects of entering space on a craft.
The first vehicle to be built and launched by Millennium Enterprises is the Kestrel-1.
The Kestrel-1 stood at only 5.7 meters tall and weighed 6 tons. It was launched on January 1st, 1956. The next rocket to launch was the Kestrel-2 which grew to 8.5 meters tall and weighed 15 tons. It successfully lifted off on June 5th, 1956. and delivered a small science capsule just above the Karman line to collect scientific data on space.
Kestrel-II went on to complete 2 more missions in 1956 that were classified by the CIA. On December 27th,1956, Kestrel-3 launched the spy weather satellite into low earth Orbit transferring many of the early images of the Earth from space. The Kestrel-3 unlike its older iterations expanded to a 1.8 meter diameter 1st stage and gaining a 2nd stage in order to reach orbit. It also grew to 12.6 meters in height and weighed 33.4 tons. It was capable of launching 3 tons into low earth orbit.
On February 20th, 1957, the first rocket to be launch by Millennium Enterprises was a modified Kestrel-3. The mission was to impact the surface of the moon.
The Lunar-Impactor mission was a success, as new images of the moon were sent back to earth on the crafts approach to the moon. With this show of capability Millennium Enterprises was awarded a contract to set up a relay network of satellites in orbit to provide communications and navigation for the U.S. Navy. This would be accomplished by 4 satellites at 1500km orbiting the Earth. With this the new workhorse of Millennium Enterprises would go on to have 4 successful launches of the navies Poseidon Constellation.
By July of 1957 the constellation had been completed. Zee had negotiated in the terms however to allow Millennium Enterprises to piggy back off those satellites to allow for 100% coverage for newer remotely controlled spacecraft with Earths SOI. This constellation though would need a sub constellation around the moon in order to cover any missions to the "Dark Side" of the moon.
