Hi I'm epic chicken, I'm gonna be building a moon base.
This first launch will launch the orbital comms relay, the comms module and the airlock module.

Screenshot_20220720-124522_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg
Screenshot_20220720-125115_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

We'll drop the orbital comms relay into orbit, where it can relay comms to earth
Screenshot_20220720-125144_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

just pop out the solar panels
Screenshot_20220720-125227_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

and we'll head to surface of the moon
Screenshot_20220720-125244_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Firing up the lander

Touchdown in the Sea of Tranquility
Screenshot_20220720-130103_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Just gotta pump the fuel into the comms module
(I pumped the fuel into the Lander during the decent due to the Lander became uncontrollable with the heavy weight on one side)
Screenshot_20220720-130311_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Used the rsc in the comms module to hop off the lander
Screenshot_20220720-130321_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Retract the legs
Screenshot_20220720-130338_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And point towards to relay module in orbit
Screenshot_20220720-130357_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

and using the Lander to hop over the comms module to get the airlock into position
Screenshot_20220720-130439_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

landed it
Screenshot_20220720-130516_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And separated the airlock from the Lander and deleted the lander

This was our first launch, we'll be conducting a few more launches

Looks like we're going to also send the crew to the moon ourselves since nasa spent all their money on that orange hunk of junk over there.
Screenshot_20220729-105734_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Eh whatever, I present to you the "moon landing system"
20220729_115734.gif

The tower's umbilical arms are severed prior to liftoff
Screenshot_20220729-105942_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

All 4 Titan engines light off at full thrust a few seconds later, providing the moon landing system with 1600 tonnes of thrust
Screenshot_20220729-110002_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The moon landing system initiates its gravity turn at 1km up
Screenshot_20220729-110034_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The rocket quickly climbs higher into the atmosphere
ezgif.com-gif-maker (1) (1).gif

The LRBs run out of fuel and are jettisoned at 20km up, while the core shuts off its engines
Screenshot_20220729-110133_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The moon landing system continues up to its apogee
Screenshot_20220729-110147_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Where the core lights off its engines and continues accelerating into orbit
ezgif.com-gif-maker (2).gif

The core runs out of fuel and is jettisoned, while the second stage lights off it's single Frontier engine and ditches it's fairings and abort tower
Screenshot_20220729-110456_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And the seconds finishes the orbit burn
Screenshot_20220729-110535_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The second then lights off it's Frontier engine once again to send it on a course to the moon
Screenshot_20220729-110539_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg
Screenshot_20220729-110630_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Screenshot_20220729-110643_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The moon landing system then continues on a 3 day journey to the moon
Screenshot_20220729-110708_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg
Screenshot_20220729-110711_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Once it arrives, it once again lights off it's engine to slow down and drop into an orbit
Screenshot_20220729-110807_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And after the orbital insertion burn, we have a nice low orbit
Screenshot_20220729-110824_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The lander separates from the moon landing system's second stage and prepared for a landing burn
Screenshot_20220729-110914_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The lander lights off it's single Frontier engine to slow down for landing
Screenshot_20220729-110938_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And the lander coasts down to 5km before preforming a hard braking burn to slow down

To be continued.

As we continue our mission to the moon, we're coming in on approach
Screenshot_20220729-111029_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

The engine is once again fired up at 1km up to slow down even more
Screenshot_20220729-111106_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And we're just over 250 metres from landing
ezgif.com-gif-maker (3).gif

And the lander decends comes in for landing and comes to rest on the "landing pad"
Screenshot_20220729-111320_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Once the lander's secondary landing legs are deployed and propulsion systems shut down, the astronauts can disembark the lander
Screenshot_20220729-111351_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

This guy seems to be checking out the view from the viewing tower
Screenshot_20220729-111528_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And the other guy is taking the suspension rover out for a spin
Screenshot_20220729-111554_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And my little moon base is complete

Alright I guess I have to show the lander's return capabilities, so I'll load a quicksand with the astronauts still in the lander
ezgif.com-gif-maker (4).gif

The lander uses it's reaction control thrusters to clear the "landing pad" and lights off it's Frontier engine at full throttle
Screenshot_20220729-111840_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

It climbs slowly into orbit
Screenshot_20220729-111853_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And bam, low moon orbit
Screenshot_20220729-111946_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And we set course for earth
Screenshot_20220729-112025_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

As we near the perigee, the lander lights off it's engine once again to use every litre of fuel left to slow down
Screenshot_20220729-112043_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And we're coming down to earth
Screenshot_20220729-112059_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

We'll jettison the propulsion module for re entry
Screenshot_20220729-112131_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg
Screenshot_20220729-112306_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And we enter the atmosphere in a firey re entery
Screenshot_20220729-112340_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

8 kilometres to go
Screenshot_20220729-112403_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And we continued to slow down due to atmospheric drag
Screenshot_20220729-112428_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And once we're low enough we can deploy the parachutes and use the primary landing legs as stability fins
Screenshot_20220729-112502_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

Just over 150 metres to go
20220729_125406.gif

And touchdown
Screenshot_20220729-112810_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And the astronauts can exit the capsule

And we can save a quicksave here and load the one on the moon
Screenshot_20220729-111554_Spaceflight Simulator.jpg

And that concludes my moon base mission
