Basically just a thread for my shit that i think is cool, nothing much to it

Mars base time (hellas planatia)

Original idea was to just send a rover to gale crater but then i just decided to make a mars base

The construction drone was a pain in the ass to get there bc i had to go back to add more ions and also it’s the heaviest payload so far with the current minmus 2 shell lander preset

First crew module arrived with almost no difficulty

Next will be the crew lander which I’ve already designed

This launched on the minmus 2H rocket which is what PES uses for most interplanetary launches, the original design i mentioned in the previous post wasn’t good so i had to redesign it

I will try to get this thing back to earth

I have shitty experience about building a base on hellas planitia, you cant share the qks to anyone, i think the game gets confused cuz its under sea level

I can confirm because the same happened to me, but this bug is fixed now:

See, the ship doesn't disappear anymore even if I take control of another ship.

I did a return mission

Got the CPLS into LEO

FPLS gets to orbit

drain fuel of second stage and FPLS then land the FPLS back on earth
Repeat 4 more times until core stage of transfer vehicle is full

mars transfer burn

orbital insertion burn+deorbit burn

landed and took current mars base crew into the lander(it’s empty so that we can have at least one working vehicle at the base when it’s populated)

almost drop a rocket stage on the base(haven’t heard that in rocketry before)

dock at mars station and refuel vehicle

land back on earth(heatshield broke during landing bc engines made it overheat)

Mission done, I’m planning to add a landing pad and fuel depot so I don’t need to add all the refueling shit in earth orbit

That’s why I’m posting it here, i was saying that the progress is more in line with what I’m doing at the time rather than when i post the thread on the forums

Landed at mars and unloading payload

after crashing into the base after a drone malfunction and reloading a quicksave the main infrastructure is here, once the tank is filled it can support 2 crew rotations before being refueled, it can also be expanded for more fuel and landing space, ima refuel it and not post it bc it’s not as exciting and it’s not staying on the surface

If I’m careful or use a specific vehicle for the pad it’ll be fine

And i can easily replace the struts with heatshields in the future, hell, I don’t really need the struts for landing stuff, the planatia is flat enough to land my largest lander without any infrastructure

Update on the refueling missions: I’ve done 1 test of the FLPS V2(disposable/long distsnce variant) and I’ve redesigned it and minmus 2 to better fit its mission of upkeeping the mars base

i forgot to use the parachutes so a lot of fuel was wasted

after orbit we refuel the core with the leftover boat tail fuel

after separating boat tail we flip around so the frontiers are facing the opposite of pointy bit
