Question about fairings

I have a question about fairings. What difference does it make if the "detach edges" mark is active or not? I can't see any.

Ok. Than you! So I suppose it's interesting when you want to create hulls and things like that with fairings, and you don't want them to unintentionally split up.

Exactly.
Or you attach docking ports to the edges so you can reuse them.
