I've seen old concept on STS, one of them would launch shuttle to orbit by another gigantic not-so orbital space plane (suborbital shuttle, it's like a booster)
The idea of launching from a plane in itself exists, it's what Virgin does with Launcher One for example. But this is a very small launcher, doing so with the STS would be completely impossible, the STS empty weighed 70 tons. With a small shuttle like the X-37B, it could eventually be discussed...
Keep in mind that the height and speed reached by a rocket is way above those reached by a plane. Launching from a plane brings little benefits, and the plane has to be able to lift the rocket and its fuel.
Shuttle as a booster? Reminds me of... View attachment 59819
This. It's a shuttle + booster disguised as an orbiter. With an extra booster. Got this to mars and back, can't remember if I landed.
Yo dawg, I hear you have a nice booster, so I stuck your booster on a booster and then boosted it so your booster could get boosted whilst it's boosting with a booster.

That is called a “Stratolauncher” and it exists in real life, though it doesn’t launches the STS.
Have you heard of Virgin Galactic? Its SpaceShipOne, the wolrd’s first commercial spacecraft launches from a plane, like you guys say. View attachment 59826

also grumman came too for the design of the STS and just like i've said USAF came along and redesign was needed and rockwell got the contract to build the STS we know today...
welp concept for STS before USAF rekt the whole idea that gives us the current view of it.. View attachment 59858
welp some more?
