I'm testing out a new design for a shuttle, a more blunt-nose style one. I still have to figure out the design of the VTOL system, the design of the booster/ET, fix up the the look of the main engines, add RCS etc. The payload space is pretty miserable, but I don't really care right now.

I have finally bought the expansion, yay!
I put this SSTO shuttle together, and I'm still looking for a good name. It's a belly-flopping tail-sitter, like starship.

I wanted to make it reusable, since a lot of my previous shuttles had it in mind, but never went far with it. Now that I have cheats, I can construct and test infrastructure with ease.

An empty shuttle is loaded with cargo. The max capacity is around 25t, which might not seem like a lot, but it's enough for my station needs.

A small drone takes the payload and places it into the cargo bay.

After that, it flies away, the cargo bay is shut, and the shuttle is moved a little out, where it is oriented correctly and refueled.

Liftoff!

The launch pad is pretty wide, it gives me plenty room to land.

Whooosh!

And repeat.

Time for some more reusable stuff!
This time I wanted something that would be more practical that my last attempt, so I went for a split cargo bay. (This way, I was also able to make it larger, since the bearings I use to rotate stuff will collapse under too much weight)

TBH, my last drone looked better, but I didn't want to make a copy.

The cargo is transported into the crago bay, which is closed (very carfully, otherwise RUD will follow thanks to querky SFS physics). After that I can refuel the rocket, if it's needed.

After reaching orbit, the payload can be released.

This is much easier to do in 1.52, thanks to the ability to switch between craft in the normal view.

At this point my arrrow controls froze up, so the landing was very frantic and used way more fuel than necessary, but hey, first try. At least I was able to deploy all of the landing legs at once and in time, which was a pain in 1.5.

Now that I look at the picture above, something seems to be wrong with the landing pad... I'll have to check that out later.

After landing on the pad, the rocket can be refueled and reloaded with another payload. Now that this project is finished, I can focus on other stuff.

We can make tiny RCS ports look good thanks to the orientation values accepting decimals in 1.52!

Apparently, you can stage fuel tanks.

It only shows the fuel levels...
Which, of course, means that you can transfer fuel from tank to tank.
