The 86 is a modern recreation of a killer classic. But it is not mechanically true to the original, as it does not have a unique body (it is shared with the Subaru BRZ) and it has a non-native engine (a Subaru flat 4 vs the straight 6 of the 2000GT). A great drive. But a sad departure from its roots.
In South Africa, Toyota, Ford and VW is king, followed by Mercedes and BMW for the financially stronger section of society. Together they represent more than half the cars in the country, old or new. KIA and Hyundai has claimed a huge chunk of the cake for themselves too.
1964½ model, red, convertible top (cream), wire spoke compomotive wheels with whitewall tyres, 2 speed auto with the optional overdrive, brown leather bench seats... Beautiful 6 cylinder engine that adorned these engine bays before the brutal V8s...
