Mars Bases!

#26
Meanwhile I’m landing my first ever craft on Mars to scout...

I am confused by the Olympus Mons elevation reading and have a problematic landing, attempting correct makes things worse...

B4CE3E86-1C1E-40F9-A778-853C0BEA151F.png

Finally extricating myself I find I have a lingering port from the broken rocket, I release it and it fires off like a bullet and takes out the last chance of a return...Damn, stranded

Reaching the western rim of Oly Mons I use the summit to pop upright...

Mission accomplished, now send help

Damn, missed my target by a mile or 10...
Otherwise a miraculous landing,
Better haul ass somehow...

I mean really haul ass, the flat spot is waaay down there!

I can’t believe that worked, still haven’t tested the elevator, I’m tired and the modified unit is still in orbit

The base looks pretty good! If you want you can post your Saving (.qks file) and I can Rescue your Rover and Crew and send it back to you.

I’m on iOS phone so I’m just doomed, DOOMED!
But thanks anyway, he’ll just have to hold the hill till the fuel man shows up, maybe he can go test that lift while he’s waiting

Okay, today I bring you: a single launch Mars Base of 1000 tons:
Screenshot_20190704-183007.png

This is Actually the first time the Empress Cobra VI does the role for what it was created: single-launch Interplanetary Colonies. Taking This thing into orbit is easy If you don't count the lag...

Mars Aerobrake:

And Landing! :

Okay, we're on the ground. Time to test the Rover:

It works! Now to send the crew

Very impressive!
Did you submit that one to the contest?

Got an early start while waiting for coffee water to boil...

So my test of a super heavy fuel lander didn’t go so well, watch those tank levels!

Still refusing to save while waiting for coffee I attempted to swap in my modified fuel port elevator and took out some solar cells I forgot to let down, crashed in frustration and finished making coffee...

Back to the board I laboriously redesigned a failing modification before discovering an easy simplification...

Next gave into the fuel cheat, because that’s what Trump would do,
I wanna see Fire!, defund the CDC, we won’t need the CDC if we colonize Mars, I’m a genie, it’s just plain math, we’ll save billions spending trillions, it’s big money, I know big money, this works!

Nicer...
Now test the elevator, first down..,

Damn you gravity!

Over a month quiet here

Lemme start with my “Fuelevator” because it has a great name though it got shelved as quick as it landed...
Still, it’s an interesting sort of improvement over the last elevating fuel pump

It goes up and down nice, but can break if you get sloppy
Refuels in the up position and lowered onto a rocket top or adjusts to a side port
Course the problem is the whole station has to move to get over a rocket

The top legs connect the nose to the station fuel, which leaves a little drop over the second legs for disconnecting, then it lowers one pair of legs at a time to desired height

Wanted to find a better place for a mars base than Mt Oly which is all slope,
Found this long forgotten rover in orbit be just fine to scout that plateau clockwise from Oly 5F514C22-0AFC-4F80-92AB-6D2AF594529A.png 96185DD2-59DD-47BD-B5F8-7EF21B889919.png

Legs were supposed to guide for pickup, but flying right works better

Think I topped out over 17m/s in this thing, but
43FC05C2-8A53-4E25-AD44-9AB2F0D7E92C.png
Just broke the legs, so solar panels:

Hazza and onward...

So anyway, that spot about 30deg clockwise from Oly is a nice flat plateau...
I stopped about a third of the way traveling CW and called it good

This is mars version of my “silly moon base” fueling machine, having a pair of broadswords rather than 4 crickets is a bit weak gravity wise but works fine

#44
And so my slightly modified Hab base from the moon, with a bit taller radio tower and a tractor pad that wasn’t shortened by random debris accident in orbit
17B96A6C-8896-402A-9925-925E31C5E3CD.png

It kinda drifted in the hole and went crooked, left the large dish brace in place, gotta think this through

Now to design a fabulously large mining platform...
But first I took a stab at a fuel lander
473065E7-2B3A-43DC-B29E-B8E75420074E.png
The second test launch came down and landed miraculously, broke the legs dropping the boosters but whatever

77309789-F356-4424-A3C9-FBF7DD8D33FF.png

But the, hell ya, failed to drop the boosters but perfectly lucky otherwise...

Landing this thing should be a contest

Hey Blazer, can you pm or email me the code for mars day-night cycle? And does it work for earth as well?

Okay, I finally made some time to work on some new bases (I demolished The older ones So Its a fresh start). The first one is on Mars, the second one on Phobos. I plan to build another one on Deimos and One or two more on Mars itself. A little about each base:

Mars - Base 01: Curiosity View attachment 21444
As you can see it has a Rover, an HQ with an antenna, two greenhouses on top of Crew habitations, and a Lab with Solar Panels on top of a third habitation.
To the right is the escape craft.

This base it is located on the top of Olympus Mt. so Its the highest surface base on the Solar system.

Phobos - Base 02: Spirit
View attachment 21446
This base was originally designed to be mobile. While trying to design a rolling Rover for Phobos, I thought that If I made it too heavy, under the ultralow gravity, it will act as a light Vehicle on normal gravity... That didn't work.

So I decided to leave it there as a surface base. On the interstages on the central piece there are drones that I can use to scout Phobos: View attachment 21447
