And before anyone says landing gear (looking at you, Danny Batten )...I'll do it first.
Landing gear. There. I said it.

anyways, back to the topic... I'd suggest wheels or chutes, some sort of braking system. Optimal landing speed for parts (iirc) is VERY slow (7m/s, maybe?), but wheels have a landing speed of ~20-30m/s, and they bounce!

Yep, part of it did. Need to land a bit slower. Use parachutes If necessary.

I haven't used this thread in a while, so here's a VTOL plane I've been working on. It's balanced in flight (both horizontal and hovering) regardless of how much fuel is left. It can fly completely without cheats, but you'll need infinite fuel to go more than a few kilometers.
