High speed bombers like the old TSR-1 weren't fitted with rear guns for this exact reason. The aircraft could fly faster than the weapons muzzle velocity, meaning the round would technically be flying backwards in relation to a fixed observer and the targeted aircraft would have to fly into the round, rather than the other way about.
