After getting into orbit around Mercury I’m now trying to land on Mercury. Trying to use the original rocket that I used with my first attempt named Scrap I it missed completely. With Scrap II it missed again. During Scrap III (shown above) it didn’t slow down enough and hit Mercury.

Made it to Mercury with Scrap V but did encounter some problems with some of the buttons deciding to go by themselves... fun times

Just gonna drop a fact here:

The second most inefficient maneuver you can do in SFS (only behind going to Mercury straight up, without Venus gravity assist), is to attempt to get an orbit around Mercury by burning in the edge of the planet’s SOI. Ever heard of a guy named Oberth? He can explain why.

I wasn’t intending to be that far out in the SOI. I got it where I wanted at my target (20km) first then I didn’t realise I hit one of the RCS buttons so when I got there I was a bit confused and then on of the turning buttons (specifically the right one) like to go by themselves. In the end it all worked out. But yeah, was not aiming for 8500 km to begin with. Was the first time I’ve ever tried to get into orbit around anything while being that far out

This can be done more efficiently indeed, with a gravity assist from Venus, but this is already a nice performance, and the launcher seems to be well designed and balanced. Good work :)

If you want to try it with a Venus gravity assist, I detailed the procedure here a while ago:
Graveyard challenge.

The technique is a bit tricky, but the reward is interesting: you'll save around 900 m/s that way, which is... quite a lot of fuel!

Thanks, I’ll make sure to try that out soon

Idk if I’m the only one who’s made a part like this. This is one of the two rockets that has this feature. The other being my literal first rocket (that worked).

I added a lens to my Stargate space telescope that increases the quality of images taken. Then decided to just use the module that got the lens there to fuel up my station a bit.

Tested a new rocket that I named Holland 1. Can get into orbit (at 150 km) with the first stage along with assistance from the boosters (2 hawks and a frontier put together). Will probably make several versions based off of this one for various missions. I also had a 2nd stage that wasn’t even needed for this test.

My second shuttle I’ve ever produced (not completely successful) that got to orbit on my first attempt, landed mostly intact on my second landing attempt (lost 1 engine and 2 landing legs). Was so close to landing okay but I used parachutes because I was going too fast and I distributed them badly so the back end hit the ground hard:(... I guess besides that it went okay though.

Made another landing attempt and landed but lost all the landing legs (besides one). Second attempt had no damage
